When Should a Student Attend the Program School
The following applies only to students who attend a program that is not housed at their home school.
The following is in reference to scheduled days for the districts. Calamity Days (Snow days) are an exception. Please click on this link to learn the procedures for a Calamity Day.
Students are required to attend the Program whenever the Program is in session. For instance, Wadsworth is starting much earlier than the other schools due to construction. A student who lives in Barberton, Norton, or Copley who will be attending a program housed at Wadsworth is required to attend the program on the first day of school in Wadsworth. At anytime during the year, if a student's home school is scheduled to have a day off but the program school is in session, the student is required to attend the program.
All of the districts have 180 days of school. If a student attends a program in another district they will, in the end, attend a total of 180 partial days at each school. Due to varying schedules in each district, it is likely that a student will attend school on more than 180 total calendar days but some of these will be partial days. If a student's program school begins earlier, it will likely end earlier or have more vacation days during the year. Again, in the end, the student will attend 180 full days of school and these 180 "full" days will be made up of both partial and full days. The exception is early "last days" for seniors in some districts.
In summary, students are to follow the calendars and attend all days that either school is in session.
Follow this link to learn more about transportation on these days.
BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR CAREER-TECHNICAL PROGRAMS
This information is primarily for students who will be attending a program at a school other than the home school.
*** Students MUST attend their program beginning the first day of the program regardless of when their home school calendar begins. For example, Wadsworth begins on August 18th. If your student attends a program housed at Wadsworth, your student MUST begin attending on August 18th. See instructions below.
All Compact students must ride the bus unless otherwise notified. Students who are caught driving will be disciplined and may be removed from their program. The bus schedule is on the back of thispaper and on the inside flap of the Compact folder you will receive.
Except for calamity days, ALL compact busses (the bus from a high school to the hub site) run when any ONE or more schools are in session. The hub site is Norton (there is no Norton bus). Procedure: You will board the bus at the home school and be transported to Norton High School. If your program is at Norton, your trip is over. For students continuing to Barberton, Copley, or Wadsworth, you will transfer to a Barberton, Copley, or Wadsworth bus to complete your trip. At the end of your program time, the process is reversed. NOTE: Some students may have to leave the program early in order to catch a return bus. Please review this time on the first day with your instructor.
- Except for calamity days, you must attend classes at the program school when the program school is in session—even if your home school is not in session. You will be considered “unexcused absent” if you do not attend.
- The ONLY exception is if your school is closed due to a calamity, such as a snow day.
- School starts on the following days: Wadsworth-August 18; Norton- August 24; Copley-August 25; Barberton-September 6. For example, if your home school is Copley, Norton, or Barberton and you are enrolled in a program at Wadsworth, you will start school at Wadsworth on August 18.
- Students must find their own transportation from home to their home high school and then ride the compact bus. Do not drive to your program school, you must ride the bus. Schools may ticket or tow the vehicles of students who do not have permission to drive and students may receive additional discipline, including removal from the program.
Calamity days: If your home school is called off, do not attend the home school or the program school. DO NOT DRIVE TO THE PROGRAM SCHOOL. If your program school is called off, attend the home school and ask your home school administrator for further instructions. If Norton is called off, there will be NO compact busses. You will be given excused absences for calamity days.
If you are late for school and miss your bus, you are to report to the Guidance Office--except at Norton HS report to the Athletic Office--so that your program school can be notified. The student will remain in that office until the next bus. To report absences, please contact the following people:
